Face-lit, halo-lit or neon — chosen for the brand and the fascia

The agent reads the logo and the building before it picks a construction, so the four concepts differ in how they are built, not just in the font. If the client already knows what they want, say so in the notes and it designs around that.

  • Face-lit channel letters

Translucent acrylic faces lit from inside — the brightest, most legible option for a busy street or a long reading distance.

  • Halo-lit (reverse) channel letters

Solid faces on standoffs, with light washing the wall behind them. A quieter look for refined brands and smooth, pale facades.

  • Open-face channel letters

Open returns with exposed LEDs or a clear face, for a vintage marquee feel. Ask for it in the project notes and it is drawn and specced like the others.

  • LED neon

Flexible LED neon on a clear or hidden rail, for script logos and a warm evening glow — kept legible, not novelty.

What goes into each spec

Construction
Letter type, faces, returns and any backer or rail, written the way a fabricator reads it.
Return depth
In half-inch steps — usually 2–5 in. for lit letters, ½ in. for flat cut letters.
Lighting
Method and colour temperature, plus how the sign reads by day and at night.
Mounting
How it fixes to the building: standoffs, a rail or raceway, or flush to the wall.
Size
Cap height and overall width in feet and inches, judged against things in the photo — or against a scale you mark on it.

From site photo to approved sign, in three steps.

About 2–3 minutes per design run.
  1. Snap the site photoPhotograph the shopfront from across the street and add the client’s logo — or just the business name and trade. Notes like “must be halo-lit” go in too.
  2. Four buildable conceptsThe old sign is erased and four concepts are placed on the photo, each a different construction with its own spec. The agent checks every render against the site photo and re-draws the ones that fail; lit signs come at dusk and by day.
  3. Approval link + vector packSend the client a link they open without an account to compare, comment and sign. Then export the approved design as SVG, DXF and PDF — design files, not factory files.

Questions sign shops ask

Can it show how halo-lit and face-lit letters look at night?

Yes. Lit concepts are rendered at dusk with the sign switched on — the halo glowing on the wall, faces lit, neon glowing — and every concept also comes in a daytime version of the same design, so the client sees both.

Which type of channel letter does it choose?

It decides per job, from the brand and the facade — for example halo-lit for a quiet, refined look, face-lit for reading from across the street, LED neon for a script logo. The four concepts always differ in construction. If the client has asked for something specific, such as open-face letters, write it in the project notes.

Does the mockup include return depth, mounting and colour temperature?

Yes. Every concept comes with a short spec: construction, return depth, lighting method and colour temperature, mounting, colours and materials, cap height and overall size in feet and inches. Sizes are estimated from the photo unless you mark a scale on it in the editor.

Can I send the files to my fabricator?

You can export a vector pack: a 1:1 front elevation as SVG and DXF with outlined text on separate layers, an elevation PDF with a title block, and a spec sheet PDF. They are design files, not factory files — your fabricator still makes the production drawings.

How much does it cost to try?

The free plan has 3 credits and needs no card. A design run of four concepts uses 2 credits and each change uses 1, so you can run one job and refine it once. Free renders carry a watermark.
